Reminiscing about first day of school after holidays always brings nostalgia.

First week of June is always colorful and fun in school. Parents rushing to get the finest items for their kids, things that were possibly cheap but best available in vicinity. A day to show and flash all that that we have bought new.

New books, brown or yellow binding covers, fancy name slips pasted on the center of the book for some and on the right upper side corner for a few others . Some go beyond that and paste it on the first page of the book and some with no name at all !

New pencils, pens, eraser ( rubber for some !), geometry box…there goes a big list. New clothes presumably with new smell, smell that we don’t get or realize now a days on our clothes.

Higgledy-piggledy cupboards suddenly gets a transformation. Old books goes to shelves beyond your reach and some sell it for pocket money! .

Brill ink, hero pen, Rotomac (Raveena’s Likthe Likhte Love Ho Jaye !) , Papa wala Reynolds and yeah the gel pens for sure finds place in fancy double decker pencil boxes.

A lot of blessing and wishes from people at home…

Adding to the list ..comes a good rain coat and an umbrella, carefully picked from the most interesting TV ad to welcome monsoon. Three fold ones got very popular as it can be kept anywhere and even popped out of your trousers. ! Time where anything and everything created a new fashion statement !

The preparations begins well before a week. Your cycle gets a fair makeover. New stickers over the mud guards, broken tail lights gets a replacement. New brake pads. May be the handle and seats goes a few inches up — going to higher class indeed means you have grown big !

Some gets safely and happily deposited in their school or even classrooms, some love it striding with fellow colleagues and some use the thickly packed public transport. Those who have experienced it will never forget the thrilling ride with nothing to hold other than fellow passengers tummy — because the handle bar always remain beyond your reach. ! Finally getting dropped and running to the class room -as keen as mustards !

The walk outside for the ceremonious morning assembly, the countless ‘attention — stand at ease’ in succession, eyes shut with prayers for better marks or to sit next to our crush ! hehe.

When monsoon shows its fury, we show ours by splashing water at each other, jumping between small islands created by our corporation roads !

First day at school, being on time remains the motto. Teachers too often join the students league. Some come with new attire, funny haircuts, even with broken hands or legs ( effect of summer holidays ! )

First period goes away easily with introduction and meeting new friends, some making noise, some start making a group, planning to pickup the mischief from where they stopped during last summer holidays all over again ! . Nerds start talking about rocket science and NASA whereas others talk about sports or cinema, cooking stories and gossips! For some it starts the countdowns for the next summer vacation !

Some muster courage to talk to their girl or boyfriends and some keep looking for an opportunity, some keep the fun for the other days. !

Sharing food during the lunch time, hands over the shoulder, never ending boast, punishments, late comers, two line, four lines, laughing over silly jokes, funny handwriting of your duffer friends , pen fights, FLAMES…… there are umpteen things that deluge our thoughts .

After a hectic and fun filled day, that change from a well-groomed kid to one your family cant realize anymore in the evening , new time table, new hopes and some hours of solitude before the cycle starts again, the next day !!!

Wonderful memories !

I hope most of you will be able to relate something or other!
