I have heard many saying having elderly people, a grand mother or a grandfather at home is a lovely affair.

They enlighten their grandchildren with a lot of ‘knowledge’ that the new generation otherwise would completely miss out in this nuclear world. This is a real threat to the so called small families live in the cities, in flats. Unless there is a conscious effort put by the new age parents, they would completely go blind of all those fascinating tales, lessons, stories from mythological books, epics and other pearls of wisdom from their experience of life.

Well, many would say, these are the things of the past and world is going towards Crypto, NFT, Web 3 and so on. Yes, that right. I m not saying don't embrace things that the new world offers, but its extremely important to understand our ‘roots’ as well.

I had a habit of devouring the entire text book of Malayalam and English in my primary school days. It is more due to the reason that I tend to read them all over again and again and it comes to be point that you will remember the entire text preface to end. Well, it became impossible as the text books grew in size in the higher classes.

All my love for Malayalam language left in me even after staying away from Kerala is only because of the learning I had from my grandmother and my Malayalam professor who taught me in high school, who encouraged me to publish in kayyezhuthu maasika, read about the texts of famous Malayalam poets.

It is mesmerizing to see how our ancient poets of our country have given birth to masterpieces, the puranas, the Upanishads , the Epics..

I was fortunate enough to hear Hindu mythological stories right from the face of my grandmother , which has given me a sense of the our culture, the immaculate beauty of our mother language- Malayalam.

On an evening after our usual naama japam, my grand mother told me a story of how she ‘developed’ a verse or a short poem in the middle of aksharashlokam, when she had to start with ‘‘ ണ”

!!!! ‘ണ’ കാരമൻപോടെഴുതേണമെങ്ങിൽ ‘കെട്ടോ’ന്നുവേണം ‘കുനി’ രെണ്ടുവേണം

കെട്ടോന്നുകെട്ടി കുനിയും കുനിച്ചാൽ ‘ണ’ കാരമപ്പോൾ ദൃഢമായ്ഭവിക്യും !!!!!

See how beautiful this is !. To have such a presence of mind and have a retort impromptu , right in middle of a play is really applaudable.
